An epic experience unlike any other in the Highlands
The Hollow Mountain
The Hollow Mountain
Take a tour into one of Great Britain’s most unique power stations. Follow the kilometre-long tunnel that was drilled and blasted out of solid granite and see the turbines within the heart of Ben Cruachan.
Trek up to the mighty Cruachan Dam and reservoir that sit on the slopes of the mountain. The two possible routes to the dam both offer magnificent views across Loch Awe and the highlands.
Enjoy lochside views and the wildlife that inhabits the area, with ospreys and the odd pine marten known to make appearances around the Visitor Centre. Inside guests of all ages can find out about electricity and the history of the power station.
If you’re anywhere near Loch Awe, the Cruachan Power Station is a must. Can’t believe it was built in the early 1960’s. An epic piece of Scottish engineering. Tea Room is also excellent.
A very interesting place to visit.Amazing feat of engineering,The tour is well organised & informative. The cafe is very good, friendly staff & good value. A visit to Cruachan is recommended.
Informative, interesting tour into the mountain. Lovely visitor centre too. Great for coffee, cake or a bite of lunch and a lovely wee gift shop for souvenirs.
Worthwhile stopping by to visit and view the insides of this power station. Fascinating detail on how it all works. Excellent value, too, for a 30min or so tour. Food on site is pretty decent, too.
Super attraction. Very good visitor centre, friendly staff and great cafe. Loved the tour into the heart of the mountain. Short tour but well worth the £7.50. Staff all deserve 5 stars.
